Les Verts got the job done on Sunday morning against GFC Ajaccio (1-0).
A week after their draw in Monaco, Frédéric Dugand's players were up against one of the best defences in the group. Les Verts took the game by the scruff of the neck and quickly opened the scoring through young Mamadou Konté, who has been with the club since the winter (ASSE 1-0 GFCA, 8th). The rest of the match was more complicated, with the young Ligériens lacking in goalscoring ability, and the Corsicans were not far behind on several occasions. However, the players from Le Forez showed character and ended up taking all three points after a complicated match.
‘It was a difficult match. We need to have more control. The quality of our opponents was a problem, but we need to be more structured and more thoughtful. It's a match won the hard way, and we showed other values besides the game. That's what football is all about. I'm aware that we have a lot of things to sort out, especially our ability to make the right decisions under pressure,’ commented Frédéric Dugand after the match.
