Les Verts triumph over JS Ajaccio

On Sunday, ASSE's U17Ns secured the point they needed by beating JS Ajaccio, the league's bottom side, 4-0.

Despite a rejuvenated squad featuring a number of U16 players, the U17Ns had to be serious when they took on JS Ajaccio on Sunday. The Corsicans, in search of their first point at national level, held out for 30 minutes. Les Verts, lacking in pace and accuracy, managed to keep the scoreline ticking over at the break, thanks to Daniel Epanya, who latched onto a loose ball (ASSE 1-0 Ajaccio, 31st).

After the break, the Stéphanois tried to turn up the intensity. They quickly doubled their advantage. Tidiane Vibert, perfectly found by Samuel Fuleki, saw his header saved by Mylan Toty, who finished the job (ASSE 2-0 Ajaccio, 49th). Les Verts then scored a third goal with a fine strike from Nathan Mouton (ASSE 3-0 Ajaccio, 59th). Les Verts' captain, who scored on the hour mark, then turned provider a little later, setting up Noah Moulin, who had come on earlier, for the fourth goal (ASSE 4-0 Ajaccio, 85th).

Thanks to this success, Monaco's reverse and Nice's draw, David Le Moal's boys are the big story of the weekend. They now have a 10-point lead over their pursuers.

Coach's reaction

“We've secured the essential result. The content, in relation to what we're capable of doing, wasn't up to scratch. A lot of U16s played in this match, which requires new connections and perhaps explains this performance. All the same, we need to step up our game choices and intensity. But we'll take the positives from this match!”
